THE IMPORTANCE OF TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION
A major responsibility of schools entering this new era of globalization is to prepare students for the new challenges that are rapidly changing our society. One of the greatest challenges currently facing our youth is finding meaningful employment. The ability to speak a foreign language and computer literacy are currently two of the most common criteria required from people wishing to enter the workforce in Indonesia and globally. So that way, technology is one of the most important things in the world. With computers now infiltrating every aspect of human life it places a high burden of responsibility upon our education system to improve the development of computer literacy. Technology is not separated from the human’s life. It is usually in everywhere such as offices, hospitals, government, company, and of course at school. Technology can make us be easier than now because the time is faster than we do not using manually. Technology is very useful to help human being that wants to going to do. Many moderns technologies at the 21st century such as computer, calculator, laptop, I-pad, cell-phone, and many more. For example at school, the component on the school (most of them) use technology for help their work (for the teacher and the student). Technologies are very important in many aspects, especially in education and have many reasons for this. Then, I want to explain one by one the importance technology at now.
The first reason is the teacher use technology to support their teaching. In 21st century, teacher must know the technology because school has many the tools can support of their activities in class such as projector, computer, LCD screen, internet, and etc. If teacher teach the students use technology tools like presentation in Ms. Power Point, GeoGebra(in Mathematics), Window Live Movie Maker (ICT), Corel Draw (design graphic), and many more, they do not find the difficulties of teach the students. Impossible the teacher draw for the students if the design graphic class be held. The teacher do not waste many time for do this work like as write the material of lessons. The teacher only creates and makes a presentation in Ms. Power Point and Ms. Word. And the students only copy the materials from their teacher to USB flashdisk and the students can study independent and try this or do the homework in their house. Then, the teacher can do or calculate the score examination of their students, use the Ms. Excel in the computer without calculate with calculator and one by
one search the average of each student. Well, the technology make the teacher can be easy than they use manual. Teacher can give the students the website address to find materials about their lessons. And then teacher asks how long they use website to find out it. And control the students for they do not open another link which does not related with the lessons.
Not for other the teacher, technology is used for students. Most of the students use technology for support their education. They can use computer, internet, LCD and projector, wi-fi, and digital camera or video (for their activity or studying). Most of their task is related with technology. For example of learning, teacher ask the students to independent study and always ask the students to search and find out their problem in their subject of lessons. They can use internet and connect to wi-fi, and show in the front of class about their invented about the lesson and share to another friends. At the class, the students do not do many activity for hear the subject of the lessons, only copy the material from the teacher. And study at home. Many effects of studying with use technology. Studying with technology can make an advantages and disadvantages. For the advantages, students know a new method of studying and find new lessons that we do not know before. They can make creativity in their studies and innovative methods of learning. For the disadvantages, the students can be lazy because they only keep in on the technology and they never read the book or their student handbooks. This condition loses interest for reading. The students can improve their skill of technology. So, many schools provide a lot of media to improve the capabilities of all things for face the world to get the challenging the world and do not oldest with develop the technology. Now, the students can reflect about development technology to make easy and reach their dreams and goals.
The third reasons are at school, the school administration use technology for a lot of activities such as registration of new students, submit the attendance of the students, give information to many students and teacher about school, and inform about school. The school administration feel enjoy to do their work because there are technology to help their work. For payment of the contribution students to school, the administration can not make difficult to student’s parents because the contribution can pay on counter fee. The others is the administration can arrange study plan card and all of about academic schedule use email and website at yahoo, google, and hotmail. The administration of college informs all students through electronic mail, facebook, and etc. Rarely, the administration of college
send or update information every day about academic schedule and a lot of information.
Technology always changes and develops. Every year the technology improves their capability such as software, hardware, utilities, and etc. Before the computer was to be a good media for type , write letter, send message with long distance, and etc. They used type writer or write with ink. Of course, many budgets for this to communicates with others. To communicate or send the things that important we get a difficult ways such as the distance, the cost and the time. But now, if we want to send important things, just send by technology. In education past time, many students do not know technology. They only hear explanation from their teacher and one of references in books. Most of them (the teacher) use books for research and teach to the students. Then, the creativity and innovative the students could not build and develop so well. The students only wait explanation from teacher. Teacher teach and explain the lessons only read book, not present with power point or prezi. And of course, the students be lazy to study and follow the examination. Teacher seldom give the students assignment based on or work with their creativity. They only study with theory and seldom to practice that. So that way, now, technology has an important value in many aspects of education.
The ultimately technology hold some point important things in education. Because technology can make all of the elements of school or college to prepare get a challenge in globalization era in 21st century. Technology can make easy for all to solve and finish our task and can make creativity and innovative ways for all students. We can invent something new that we use technology for our life.
